EFM - It's not as rude an acronym as I first thought.

I've been working on a large hosted services project for SME business use, and the network architecture supports a variety of CPE access technologies.  Unsurprisingly for the lower end of the access scale there are the xDSL variants that we all know and love, but bridging the bandwidth and performance gap between xDSL and fibre-based Ethernet access technologies is the Ethernet First Mile (EFM) service (802.3ah).  I'm putting this through integration test at the moment and I think it’s a really interesting niche tech for those wanting a value SP access service at around the 2Mpbs to 10Mbps mark.

MOT time again :(

MOT time for me again. Every year I remember at the last minute, grumble about the cost, and eventually take my car down to the local garage. And without fail every year, no matter how much care or attention I pay to the not-so-old Focus there is something wrong, however minor it may be. Like it or not it's the MOT that draws my attention to the mechanical gremlins, forces me to get them fixed…….and probably stops me ending up in a hedge or breaking down in the middle of the M4 rush hour.
